Arts Management Intern - American Alliance for Theatre and Education

The American Alliance for Theatre and Education, the national professional organization for the field of theatre and education based in Bethesda, MD, seeks two Arts Management Interns. The AATE internship program provides learning opportunities and on-the-job experience to college juniors/seniors, graduate students, and recent college graduates with a professional interest in arts and/or non-profit management. To learn more about AATE, please visit www.aate.com.

BENEFITS:

Training: The intern will gain valuable experience in non-profit management. The intern, with their supervisor, will develop a list of learning goals that they would like to accomplish. Interns are trained and supervised by AATE staff and, when possible, have interaction with board members.

Career Support: Interns who complete the program gain a valuable professional reference from a national arts organization with recognized leaders in the field. In addition, staff is available to assess the intern's interview skills and provide feedback on his/her résumé.

Hands-On Involvement: Interns are an integral part of the AATE staff. Interns will have the opportunity to create new projects, resources, and other materials for the organization. Interns will take part in a weekly staff meeting with other AATE staff members and provide input on the organization’s progress.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The intern is expected to work at least 15 hours per week for 10-12 weeks. They will participate in daily office activities, contribute skills and ideas, and produce excellent work.

In addition to general office support, the intern will create an ongoing project, which must adhere to the following guidelines. The project must:
1. be a subject of interest to the Intern or applicable to their major/area of interest.
2. provide a service to AATE members or the organization itself.
3. once completed, be tangible enough to serve as a portfolio piece to be used in future job-seeking and interviewing.

In addition to the selected project, interns will provide general office support to the Executive Director and other AATE staff. Interns will help implement recruitment and marketing campaigns. Selected interns will help with website and social media maintenance. Other duties may be assigned to an intern in their specific area of interest.
